Join us in historic Baltimore on March 22-24, 2012, for Alpha Chi’s second super-regional convention. Although our seven regions have traditionally met separately in odd-numbered years, once again all the regions are gathering at the same time and place in a format that combines elements of both a regional and a national convention.
Several members of our team will contribute by live-blogging during the event and by posting valuable details and reflections until then. Make sure to check back, as we will constantly be updating with posts from many different perspectives. We are looking forward to sharing this experience with you!
The theme for the convention is “A Star-Spangled Convention,” in honor of the composition of the national anthem by Francis Scott Key during the Battle of Fort McHenry in the city in the War of 1812.
As in a national meeting, the centerpiece program of student presentations on Friday and Saturday mornings will be scheduled by academic discipline rather than by region. Other joint activities will be an opening Thursday night banquet, a preconvention chapter workshop on Thursday afternoon, and one or more presentations by guest speakers. As always, Friday afternoon and evening will be left free for enjoying the sights of Baltimore. The convention hotel, the Hyatt Regency Baltimore, is ideally located on the picturesque Inner Harbor.
Regions will meet separately for dessert and get-acquainted activities after the Thursday banquet and also for a Friday luncheon meeting where election of regional officers will be held. A region’s officers includes a student representative, who also serves a two-year term on the National Council, Alpha Chi’s governing board.
